Conscious Box - Valentine's Box

I didn't think I'd give Conscious Box another chance after the not so Super, not so Mystical, not so Magical experience I had with them last year. If you're not familiar or need a reminder, check out parts one and two of my disappointment.  But with promises of chocolate and a bit of naughtiness, I forgave them and handed over another $20 for this "limited edition" Valentine's box.

Beverages - I've not tried any of these though I had intended to.  The Natural Calm and Natural Energy powders went to work with me since that is where I need the most calm and most energy.  Both have been in short supply for a few weeks, but the packets remain stashed on my desk.  The tea was given to a friend since I don't drink tea and the Happy Squeeze Fruit & Veggie Twist is waiting on the kitchen counter.

Food - Do you think there is any of this left?  Of course not.  Well, the virgin coconut oil remains as I haven't done much cooking lately....or ever. I keep hoping for divine inspiration and skill each week as I watch Top Chef but so far, I've only mastered my family's chili recipe.  The chia bar, granola and dark chocolate are now delicious memories.  I enjoyed everything but the 85% cacao in the Kallari organic chocolate was a bit much; it was almost too bitter.  Almost.  I don't know that I'll ever be able to tell the difference between organic and regular old chocolate but at least I can enjoy the taste-testing.

Skin Care - Natural, organic and cruelty free skin care products are always happily received.  While I'm not completely educated on the chemicals in many things and I don't have any allergies, I don't want animals to be tortured so I can look pretty, have soft skin or smell good.  So I'm constantly hunting for new items to add to my stash.  To that end, I've got a growing selection of cruelty free deodorants in what appears to be an endless search for one that actually works.  Conscious Box included a deodorant cream with lavender (aaarrgg - more lavender!) from Meow Meow Tweet.  Despite my armpit issues (I think they're gross) and the lavender stink, I convinced myself to try this.  It goes on smoothly and easily (has to be applied with your fingers) and does keep odor to a minimum.  It doesn't do anything for wetness, though, so I don't know if I could trust this in the summertime.  The coconut cream body butter from LaLicious was nice, though nothing remarkable.  The fragrance was a bit strong for me but it faded rather quickly.  The 3 butter (shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter) mint chocolate soap has just enough scent to make it quite divine without being overwhelming.  I don't love bar soaps, but have enjoyed using this one; not too much lather but enough clean.

Personal care (and fun) - I've talked to you about my undies, now feminine wipes, lube and aphrodisiac massage oil.  For real, I'm not going to disclose too much but I will say that Swipes are a great discovery and are now on my shopping list.  They are also Leaping Bunny certified.  The massage oil smells beautiful. :-)

I'm pleased with this Valentine's Day collection from Conscious Box.  I don't know that I found $20 worth of value in it because most of the sample sizes were small, save for the Kallari bar and Meow Meow Tweet deodorant cream, but I was at least able to try everything.  I'll definitely consider more limited boxes from them in the future but still won't do a monthly sub.  I like the principles and philosophies but I remain more high maintenance than holistic.

  1. I have just recently tried cooking with coconut oil. It is supposed to have some really good benefits; so thought I would give it a try. I like that it is thick like real butter (which I almost never use) and I cooked a fried egg in it. It is a bit sweet but I liked the way it cooked. I also tried it when I was doing an onion saute; again I like how the texture is like butter. They say you can use it on hair and skin also; have not gotten that far yet...
